‘Knock-out Tigdas’ targets 408,687 kids for vaccination

ILOILO CITY, March 18 (PIA) -- The Department of Health (DOH)-6 is targeting 408,687 children in Western Visayas for measles vaccination through its intensified “Knock-out Tigdas” program.

Dr. Renilyn Reyes, DOH-6 Medical Officer IV, said that they will be conducting non-selective vaccination to 101 local government units (LGUs) in Region 6.

“The Knock-out Tigdas will start full operations on March 18,” she said.

According to DOH-6, a total of 39,552 children are targets for vaccination in 14 LGUs in Aklan, while the department seeks to vaccinate 33,886 children in 12 LGUs in Antique.

DOH-6 targets to vaccinate 54,733 children in 16 LGUs in Capiz; 11,881 children in four LGUs in Guimaras; 144,644 children in 37 LGUs in Iloilo; and 123,992 children in 18 LGUs in Negros Occidental.

Meanwhile, Reyes said that six regional monitoring teams have been deployed with focus on the provision of technical assistance in the implementation of the measles outbreak response immunization.

As per the agency’s regional weekly field monitoring, measles fast lanes have been established in district hospitals all over the region, with ongoing daily reporting of measles cases, and vaccination of health personnel.

She said that rural health units have also intensified the conduct of vaccination in priority barangays. (JBG/LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
