Suspected guns-for-hire nabbed in NoCot checkpoint

COTABATO CITY -- Joint police and military personnel manning a checkpoint arrested two suspected contract killers, who also yielded guns in Midsayap, North Cotabato on Friday.

Police Regional Office 12 (Soccsksargen) Director, Brig. Gen. Eliseo Rasco, said the checkpoint operation led to the arrest of Johamin Magadili and Alnasre Aliponso, both 25 years old and residents of Barangay Mudseng in Midsayap.

“The two were on board a motorbike and acted suspiciously while approaching an Army-police checkpoint in Barangay Poblacion 7 at about 11 a.m.,” Rasco said in a report emailed to media outlets here.

He said the duo avoided the checkpoint and attempted to flee but the lawmen managed to collar them.

Seized from them were .45-caliber pistols with ammunition and a motorcycle with dubious registration documents.

The two, now detained at the Midsayap police, are facing charges for violating Republic Act 10591, or the possession of illegal firearms; and Commission on Elections Resolution 10446, or the election gun ban. (PNA)
