Fire hits graduation venue in NoCot school

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- A fire of still unknown origin gutted down the function hall of a public school in Pikit, North Cotabato on Tuesday evening.

Fire Insp. Gregorio Bueno, head of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) - Pikit, said the function hall was the designated venue for the moving up ceremony for students of the Datu Dalandag – Pikit National High School Annex on Wednesday.

“The moving up ceremony of Grade 10 pupils was scheduled beforehand in the burnt function hall,” Bueno said.

He said initial investigation showed that the 10 p.m. fire originated at the comfort room-cum-stock room area located at the back of the stage.

Bueno said the fire quickly spread to other parts of the structure.

Responding firefighters prevented the blaze from further spreading to other buildings inside the campus.

“Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident,” he said.

Fire investigators pegged the fire damage at PHP500,000.

Education officials decided to push through with the moving up program in another building inside the school compound on Thursday. (PNA)
