Leyte province, Korean traders ink recruitment deal

TACLOBAN CITY -- The provincial government of Leyte and the Korea Medium and Small Industry Managers Association (KOMSIMA) have inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on hiring of workers from three towns in the province.

Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla said in an interview Monday that the MOU signing happened during the visit of KOMSIMA Vice Chairman Yangkyu Choi and Col. Chulwon Lee from April 24 to 27.
The deal aims to curb human resource shortage of small and medium firms in Korea and help solve unemployment in three Leyte towns.
The cooperation covers the neighboring towns of Palo, Tanauan, and Tolosa, the same areas where Korean soldiers worked on debris clearing and immediate repair of public buildings after super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

Lee was the commander of the Araw Contingent from the Korean military deployed in 2014 to work on the immediate recovery of Leyte province.

Petilla said the partnership would open opportunities for Leyte’s residents.

“I think it will be a great opportunity to improve the quality of life of our citizens. Four years after the withdrawal of the Korean dispatched troop from Leyte, I am once again grateful to have the KOMSIMA for the opportunities and jobs they bring to the people of Leyte,” he added.

The governor said the Korean group signed the MOU with the officials of the province and the three towns.

“I am excited with the MOU signing since this could help our constituents in finding hope and fulfilling their dreams in Korea,” said Palo Mayor Remedios Petilla.

KOMSIMA was established in 1980 and was approved as a non-profit corporation under the Medium and Small Business Administration in 1997. It is a non-profit organization representing 350,000 of medium and small industry companies with Songho Kim as its current chairman. (PNA)
