DILG lauds Marikina over obstruction-free roads

MANILA -- The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has lauded the city government of Marikina for being an obstruction-free city.During a meeting with Metro Manila mayors on Monday, DILG Sec. KORONADAL CITY, July 31---The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) XII on Monday, July 29 secured the safety of a Brahminy Kite after it was turned over to the agency by a concerned citizen. According to Evangeline Marfil, chairperson of Bgy. Houses damaged in Batanes quakes now at 266 

MANILA -- The number of houses damaged by the twin earthquakes that jolted Itbayat, Batanes on Saturday has climbed to 266, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its update Wednesday morning.This can be broken down into 185 totally and 81 partially damaged, the report signed and released by NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad showed.Also, a total of 299 aftershocks were recorded as of 7 a.m. Wednesday.The number of families affected by the earthquake was placed at 911 or 2,963 persons.Of this figure, 805 families or 2,616 individuals are still staying at the Public Market/Municipal Plaza in Barangay San Rafael in Itbayat.The number of dead is still at nine while those injured at 64.Damaged government structures are placed at two schools and two health facilities along with 10 road sections. Baguio eyes reopening Loakan Airport in 2020

BAGUIO CITY -- The city government is mulling the reopening of the Loakan Airport, which ceased commercial operations in the 1990s, through a public-private partnership (PPP).In an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA), Mayor Benjamin Magalong said he would meet with officials of the Department of Transportation on Wednesday (July 31) to discuss the proposal to reopen the airport.“We are in the process of drafting a proposal which when agreed upon by the DOTr, the local government and DOTr would come up with an agreement that we will manage the facilities and the operation of the airport,” Magalong said on Tuesday.Built in 1934, Loakan Airport is the only airport in the Cordillera. Marijuana bricks seized from minors in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY -- Three young adults and four minors were arrested on Sunday evening for transporting marijuana, with an estimated value of PHP2.88 million.Rosel Sarmiento, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Cordillera information officer, identified the three adults as Ariston Antonio, 18; Stacey Gerodiaz, 18, male, resident of Tarlac; and Daniel Bagnas Villalubos, 18, resident of Botolan, Zambales; and four alleged minors. 93 lotto outlets in Cordillera closed

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- All the 93 lotto, small town lottery (STL), Keno and other outlets sanctioned by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) in the Cordillera region have been closed down following the directive of President Rodrigo R. Duterte.Brig. Gen. Ephraim Dickson, Police Regional Office Cordillera director, said in an interview on Monday that no less than Philippine National Police chief Oscar Albayalde led the closure of some PCSO gaming outlets in Baguio City over the weekend.“The chief PNP (Philippine National Police) was in our AOR (area of responsibility) for several events scheduled Saturday. The implementation in Baguio was simultaneously done in the whole region,” he said.In Baguio City, 12 outlets were closed, Dickson said.Even after the closure, Dickson said all outlets are subject to monitoring of unit commanders.
