Southwest monsoon brings rain showers Monday

MANILA -- The southwest monsoon (habagat) will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms on Monday in Luzon and Visayas.

In its 4 a.m. forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said affected areas are Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Region IV-A (Calabarzon), Region IV-B (Mimaropa), Bicol and Western Visayas.

The rest of the country will have cloudy skies with isolated rain showers.

PAGASA is also monitoring an active tropical cyclone (tropical storm Peipah) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

As of 3 a.m. Monday, Peipah was spotted at 2,565 kilometers east of northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 65 km. per hour. It is moving northwest at 30 kph. (PNA)
