CABARROGUIS, Quirino, Oct. 16 (PIA)--The province’s Motorismo Festival was adjudged as Best Tourism Event (Sports/Adventure) in the recently concluded 14th Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines – Department of Tourism (ATOP-DOT) Pearl Awards at San Agustin Church Compound,  Paoay, Ilocos Norte.

Loida Acacio, planning officer of the Provincial Tourism Office said it is a big leap  for the tourism industry of Quirino for besting two entries such as Compostela Valley and Bulacan considering that it’s the first time for the province to join such competition.

The five-year old Motorismo Festival was among the three entries that were shortlisted for the Best Tourism Event (Sports/Adventure) category after  hurdling  the first screening -verification, recommendation and preliminary judging  of a panel of experts convened by ATOP.

During the final review of the documents and final judging, Motorismo festival got the nod from the judges and it was declared the grand winner.

Coined from motor and tourism, the Motorismo festival is Quirino’s unique way of attracting domestic and foreign tourists to make the province their choice of destination every summer through motor biking events such as motocross challenge, endurance challenge, habal-habal challenge and others.

During the 5th Motorismo Festival last March, Former Governor now Congressman Junie Cua who is the brain behind the festival shared that he had doubts when the festival was first launched four years ago, thinking that motor biking is a hobby of rich people.

“But I was really surprise to know that motor biking is not only for the rich but for all those who love the environment and for those who love the beauty of Quirino Province," Cua said as he stressed the essence of preserving the beauty and  natural resources of the province.

Quirino also received a citation under the Best Tourism-Oriented Local Government Unit category. (MDCT/TCB/PIA 2-Quirino)
