TESDA develops new diploma programs

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Oct. 15 (PIA) - - The Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) region 2 has developed new curriculum composed of 12 diploma programs which aid opportunity to graduates to pursue their bachelor’s degree and acquire multiple skills at multiple levels to enhance their employability.

The new diploma programs include Diploma in Hotel, Resort, Restaurant, and Tour Management; Diploma in Food and Beverage Service Management; Diploma in Information and Communications Technology; Diploma in Agriculture Science; Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology; Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology; Diploma in Mechanical Engineering; Diploma in Health and Nutrition Science; Diploma in Garments, Fashion and Design Technology; Diploma in Beauty Culture, Health and Wellness Technology; Diploma in Heavy Equipment Operations Technology; and Diploma in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.

Acting Regional Director Demetrio P. Anduyan, Jr. said that its high time for the education sector to revisit their curricula to align it with the latest technological advancements such as the 4th Industrial Revolution.

The newly developed curriculum was a result of the just concluded regional write shop for curriculum development participated by 100 participants from the different 30 State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), and TESDA Technology Institutions (TTIs).

“It is also in line with TESDA's thrust towards a Quality-Assured Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in support to its vision as 'the transformational leader in the technical education and skills development of the Filipino workforce' through the registration of more PQF Level V (Diploma) Programs in the Cagayan Valley Region,” Anduyan said.

The PQF Level V or Diploma Programs, he said, also aim to develop highly competitive and innovative Filipino Workforce by developing TVET programs aligned with the diploma program descriptors, complemented by the 21st Century Skills and referenced with the Sydney Accord.

He likewise said, with the new diploma programs, graduates are prepared in terms of entry to work, flexibility at work, and opportunity for permanency and ascent in hierarchy of the industry. (MDCT/OTB with reports from Marinel Ciriaco/PIA 2-Cagayan )
