Superbowl halftime show-like program to formally open SEA Games

MANILA — An extravagant opening ceremonies will formally begin the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Saturday night.

Tats Suzara, the chief operating officer of the Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc), likens the opening rites to that of one of the most anticipated mini concerts in the United States.

"The concept here is like the halftime [show] of Superbowl. That is the intention here," Suzara said.

To make sure the SEA Games opening program, which will take place at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan will go on smoothly, Phisgoc tapped Five Currents as the producer of the event.

Five Currents made possible the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Summer and 2014 Winter Olympics, the 2015 European Games, and last year's Asian Games.

Five Currents also won 14 Emmy Awards and 60 Telly Awards for its concert producing efforts.

Lani Misalucha will begin the event with the singing of "Lupang Hinirang", the Philippine national anthem, while fellow The Clash judge Christian Bautista will also render his voice in the event.

Also performing in the opening ceremonies are Aicelle Santos, Jed Madela, Elmo Magalona, KZ Tandingan, Iñigo Pascual, The TNT Boys, consisting of Keifer Sanchez, Mackie Empuerto, and Francis Concepcion, Anna Fegi, Robert Seña, and Apl De Ap.

President Rodrigo Duterte will grace the event, while Senator Manny Pacquiao will be at the New Clark City Athletic Stadium in Capas, Tarlac to light the cauldron that signals the official start of the SEA Games.

"It will be a memorable opening ceremonies," added Suzara. (PNA)
