36 Aklanon OFWs test negative for COVID-19

KALIBO, AKLAN, May 11 (PIA) – A total of 36 out of 37 repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who arrived in Aklan on April 29 have tested negative for the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), according to the Provincial Health Office here.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Cornelio Cuachon, Jr. said that all retuning Aklanon OFWs are asymptomatic and are being quarantined in a hotel in Kalibo, Aklan.

He noted that the 36 OFWs will be kept in isolation in the said hotel until May 13, the time when their 14-day mandatory quarantine will end.

Meanwhile, it was first reported on May 5 that among the 37 Aklanon OFWs, a 30-year old seafarer from Banga, Aklan had tested positive for the virus.

This brought to seven confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province, of which four had fully recovered and two already yielded negative results from the virus but still need to undergo repeat confirmatory  test to ensure of their fully recovery.

Cuachon said that the OFW who tested positive for COVID-19 had already transferred to the isolation ward of Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital for proper medical monitoring.  She remains asymptomatic from the disease.

He added that all the 37 repatriated OFWs including the previously diagnosed as COVID positive patients tagged as Case no. 3 and 4 of the province will undergo repeat confirmatory test from the virus on May 13. (LTP/SQP/PIA Aklan)
