Benguet turns  over  testing machines to BGHMC

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, May 24(PIA) - - The provincial government turned-over to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) two  machines that would facilitate the testing of specimens for  COVID-19.

Governor Melchor Diclas turned over the two machines, an automated polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and automated Ribonucleic acid (RNA) extractor to BGHMC that were donated by Benguet Provincial Caretaker Eric Yap to facilitate testing and accommodate more specimen.

Yap came to the province last May 21 to personally hand over said machines to the provincial government thru   Diclas and Dr. Meliarazon Dulay, Officer-in-Charge Chief of the Benguet General Hospital.

While the provincial government is not yet capable to use the machines, the provincial leadership decided to have these temporarily used by BGHMC, Dulay said.

The machines would be a big help to BGHMC which is doing manual RNA extracting at present. The automated RNA extractor could process about 1,000 specimen per day, she said.

The MOA is renewable every six months until the province is capable to set-up its own laboratory, said Dulay.

As agreed, specimens from Benguet will be prioritized.

Dulay said the continuing support of the Office of the Caretaker to the provincial government not only redound to the hospital but to the patients most especially the iBenguets. (JDP/SCA-PIA-CAR, Benguet)
