DepEd: We offer learning options for students

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, May 21 (PIA) - - The Department of Education (DepEd) has presented several teaching-learning modalities as options to the students and the parents in lieu of the face-to-face classes once the school year opens in August.

Regional Director Estela Cariño said online education is just one of the options, others include modular, blended, or through radio and television.

"The students and the parents will choose among these modalities. It will also depend on the situation in the grounds," Cariño said.

She also said that modular delivery mode is recommended in areas without internet access as well as in those areas without electricity.

Face-to-face may still be implemented in areas without COVID-19 cases but with strict observance of safety measures and protocols such as minimal number of students in a classroom, physical distancing and wearing of face masks.

"But we want to stress that we are after the safety of the children and we will adhere to the directives of the local officials," the director said.

The modalities, she added, are just ready strategies to continue the studies of the students but the resumption of classes will still depend on the situation and with the decision of authorities.

She added that teachers will be trained soon as to the modality that they will implement. DepEd will also produce the modules for those who will take the modular system.

Cariño further said they will also require private schools to submit their learning continuity plans. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
