DOLE shells out P61-M for TUPAD #BKBK

CEBU CITY, May 10 (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment has shelled out a total of P61,318,620 as of May 6, 2020 to over 15,000 workers in the informal sector who participated in the disinfection/sanitation project under the “Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers" or TUPAD.

According to DOLE-7 Regional Director Salome Siaton, of the total amount spent for the program, P60,866,640 was spent for the wages of beneficiaries.

Workers were paid using the highest prescribed minimum wage rate applicable in the region, which is P404 per day.

They worked for four hours daily for ten days.

TUPAD Barangay Ko, Bahay Ko (#BKBK) caters to workers in the informal sector whose income is greatly affected by the declaration of the enhanced community quarantine (EQC) due to COVID-19.

Workers who may avail of TUPAD #BKBK are, namely: self-employed, occasional workers, house helpers, transport drivers (PUVs, pedicabs, tricycle drivers, etc.), small enterprise operators, home workers, sub-minimum wage workers, farmers, vendors, and fishermen, among others.

The local government units (LGUs) through their barangays or respective Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) submit to DOLE the list of identified beneficiaries in their areas. (hfg/PIA7/ with report from DOLE-7)
