DSWD-5 near 100% completion of SAP distribution

Legazpi City, May 8 — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-5) in Bicol is close to achieving 100 percent completion of the distribution of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) cash benefit for the 1.1 million Bicolanos who are greatly affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic as of Friday, May 8, 2020.

Marygizelle Mesa, the DSWD-5 spokesperson, said that 109 out of the 114 local government units (LGUs) in Bicol completed the SAP distribution.

For the regional target, 1,097,202 out of the 1,146,914 families have received the amelioration aid. The DSWD-Bicol disbursed P5 billion funds both for the non-Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries and 4Ps beneficiaries.

For the non-4Ps beneficiaries, 99 percent families received the cash assistance while for the 4Ps beneficiaries, 87 percent were already given aid.  She added that only five (5) LGUs are yet to achieve 100 percent accomplishment of their target.

Moreover, Mesa added that due to intermittent internet connection, some LGUs fail to report their SAP completion accomplishment on time.

Under Republic Act No. 11469 or the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act, 18 million low-income households affected by the COVID-19 pandemic are entitled to receive an emergency aid of P5,000 to P8,000, depending on the minimum wage of the region, for the months of April and May. (PIA5/DDC/DSWD-5)
