GSIS CDO responds to COVID-19 crisis thru moratorium, early pension release

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, May 24 (PIA)—As response to the call of President Rodrigo Duterte to aid Filipinos during the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 pandemic, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Cagayan de Oro Branch extends loan payments, provides easier access for loan applications of its 93,076 active members, and conducts early release of pension to its 25,354 pensioners.

During the CORDS X Podcast: The Northern Mindanao Briefing COVID-19 Special with Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Sec. Martin Andanar, May 23, GSIS CDO Board of Trustees Member Lawyer Carlo Almirante said GSIS has relaxed the terms of its emergency loan program to allow more members and pensioners to benefit from the credit window.

The agency raised the limit of the emergency loan to P40,000 to benefit its members and pensioners who have just borrowed from the program and barely paid the amortizations. GSIS also opened online applications for its COVID-19 emergency loan program available nationwide.

To apply, borrowers must e-mail the filled up emergency loan application form downloadable from the GSIS’s website; picture or scanned copy of the borrower’s GSIS electronic card (eCard) or unified multi-Purpose identification (Umid) card, or two valid IDs; and borrower’s photo while holding the accomplished application form.

As for GSIS old-age and survivorship pension Almirante said, "Ang GSIS girelease ni sa mga pensioners in advance. Instead nga April 8 ang pag-release gihatag na namo sa April 2. Sa bulan sa Mayo nga pension gi-release pud ni sa May 5 advance sa iyang schedule. Kaning bulan sa Mayo 2020 ang whole pension gyud ang nakuha sa mga pensioners kay wala gidedakan sa mga utang o outstanding balances."

(GSIS has released to the pensioners in advance. Instead of releasing on April 8, we already gave it on April 2. For the month of May pension, we already released it on May 5, which is advance to its schedule. For May 2020, pensioners have received their whole pension amount there were no decutions for credits or outstanding balances made)

Furthermore, those who were unable to comply with the personal appearance requirement or Annual Pensioners’ Information Revalidation (APIR) before March 2020 are now allowed to do such online.

To comply with the online APIR, pensioners must send via email a letter requesting GSIS to activate their status and send such to an email address designated by GSIS.

As of May 22, GSIS already granted P10.12 billion in loans to over 200,00 government employees and pensioners nationwide. (RTP/PIA10)
