Farmers attend community needs assessment for agri project

ILOILO CITY, July 8 -- A total of 31 farmers has completed the three-day community needs assessment activity as part of the social preparation for the implementation of the Department of Agriculture Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) program in the province of Negros Occidental last June 29 to July 1.

In a press release, DA SAAD Area coordinator for Calatrava, Negros Occidental  Amy Parillo said that the participants from Barangays Lalong, Minapasuk, Marcelo, Laga-an, Ani-e, Dolis, Menchaca of the municipality of Calatrava were thankful that they were able to identify what agricultural projects are suited to their needs and locality.

The seven barangays were situated in the hinterland of the municipality wherein access to national government interventions are seldom felt by the residents.

Parillo, said that the CNA has effectively conveyed to the participants the respective roles of the DA, local government unit of Negros Occidental, farmer’s association and farmer beneficiaries for the success of the program.

“This activity starts the engagement and collaboration with farmer leaders, barangay officials and agri stakeholders to discuss community development of their area,” Parillo added in a media release.

The participants were also oriented on the basic information concerning SAAD program, provision of agri-interventions, training, and technological assistance to be given to them. (JBG-PIA6/ With report from DA 6)
