Calabarzon’s Anti-Cybercrime Unit bests in national, regional levels

BAY, Laguna, August 7 (PIA) – The Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit Region 4A (RACU 4A) proves its commitment to uphold cyber safety as it bested two awards in the national and regional levels.

RACU 4A bagged the Best Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit award in the national level besting 16 other regions during the 7th PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) Anniversary 2020 last July 24 and the Best Regional Operational Support Unit in the regional level conquering other operational support units in Calabarzon during the 119th Police Regional Office 4A (PRO4A) Police Service Anniversary on August 6, 2020.

RACU 4A Regional Chief PCol. Julius C. Suriben stated that the RACU 4A has obtained these awards through “the attainment of the 2019 Team RACU4A Commitment as an active partner of PRO4A in crime prevention, crime solution and in increasing public safety awareness in CALABARZON by ensuring a safer and more secured cyberspace which is vital in the attainment of sustainable security and development in the region.”

RACU4A has achieved many of their goals and commitments in 2019 that sufficed to qualify them for the two noble awards.

They had significant improvements in terms of promoting community cyber safety awareness, strengthening community partnership, cybercrime prevention, and cybercrime solution.

In 2019, RACU 4A had a total of 601 reported crimes which shows 47.67% increase from the previous year, where 93 of the 601 cases were filed while 57 were resolved.

Such increase, he explained, can be attributed to the enhanced crime recording and intensified awareness campaign on the existence of RACU 4A.

The Unit also obtained a Cybercrime Solution Efficiency of 15.31% which is a 790.12 % increase from 2018, while their Cybercrime Clearance Efficiency reached 30.78% or a 256.66% rise from 2018.

The Chief expressed that “the significant improvement in the investigation of cases is a result of the intensified law enforcement operations, Project i-C.A.R.E. or monthly case reviews, Court or Prosecutor Visitations, the continuing training of investigators and the close coordination and relationship with PRO4A.”

The significant accomplishments of RACU4A has also earned them various distinctions that bestowed them 46 PNP Medals and 58 other recognitions for all RACU 4A personnel from the PNP ACG, PRO 4A, non-government organizations (NGOs) and schools.

RACU 4A continually lived up to its mandate even amid the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic as they initiated operations against profiteering or overpricing of essential medical supplies, fake and unregistered COVID-19 medicines, and investigated several purveyors of fake news and false information when Luzon has been placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ),

“The PNP ACG thru the RACU4A will remain steadfast in its commitment to forge a stronger partnership with PRO4A and all stakeholders to ensure a safer and more secured CALABARZON cyberspace,” the Chief affirmed. (Joy Gabrido/PIA4A)
