CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela, Sept. 28 (PIA) – Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries’ (ARBs) access in transporting or selling their farm produce to the market is now easier after the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has turned over the P50 million 28.8-meter linear bridge in Benito Soliven.

The bridge which was completed on August 28 is under the department’s ‘Tulay ng Pangulo para sa Kaunlarang Pang-Agraryo’ project and jointly implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Provincial Government of Isabela and the Local Government Unit of Benito Soliven.

No less than DAR Secretary John Castriciones, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Gov. Rodolfo Albano III and Vice Gov. Faustino G. Dy III attended the turn over ceremony.

Benito Soliven Mayor Roberto Lungan expressed his thanks to DAR and DPWH as the bridge will not only benefit farmers and residents in bringing their harvests to the poblacion but improve the transportation mobility in the locality for commuting public.

“The bridge connecting Barangay Andabuen to neighboring barangays will benefit 1,574 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) of Barangay Andabuen, Ara, Capuseran, Guilingan, Balliao and Nacalma. It will provide easier access in transporting or selling their farm produce to the market and help uplift the lives of ARBs and non-ARBs,” Lungan said.

For his part, Castriciones said the agrarian reform department is adopting the whole-of-nation approach by bringing projects and services closer to the communities to empower the farmers.

The Secretary believes that when these farmers feel the support they needed from the government, they will be empowered to help themselves during this time of pandemic.

“We expressed our appreciation to our farmers because our farmers are bringing the food to the table of our fellow Filipinos,” Castriciones said as he stressed that agriculture is the last frontier of our survival.

The turn over ceremony was also attended by Isabela 4th District Representative Alyssa Sheena Tan, 2nd District Representative Ed Christopher Go and LPGMA Partylist Representative Alan Ty.

Castriciones also led the distribution of 4,687 Certificate of Land Ownership Award (CLOA) to 3,715 ARBs in 25 municipalities in the province with a total of 5,729 hectares of farmlands.

Various farm machineries and farm inputs were also turned over to ARBs.

The DAR is the lead implementing agency of Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP), undertakes land tenure improvement, development of program beneficiaries, agrarian justice, and delivery of essential support services. (MDCT/MGE/PIA 2-Isabela)
