Valencia, NegOr SK Federation eyes resumption of youth dev’t programs

DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 29 (PIA) -- The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation in Valencia, Negros Oriental is eyeing the resumption of their youth development programs as the municipality transitions to the new normal phase amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

SK Valencia Federation President Sarah Dagoy disclosed during her interview with Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Sec. Martin Andanar over the Laging Handa Network Briefing on Nov. 27, 2020 that the SK Federation in their town plans to pursue programs that were disrupted due to the pandemic.

“Some of which (are) seminar(s) and training on Gender and Development (GAD), first aid upang ang mga kabataan natin ay may kaalaman on how to respond during emergency situations,” Dagoy said.

She added that they are planning to push through with the conduct of the Youth Leadership Summit which focuses on the campaign against illegal drugs and terrorism.

“We are not just fighting against Covid but we are also fighting against terrorism and drugs, so we plan to pursue the conduct of our Youth Leadership Summit for us to be equipped and be knowledgeable enough about the current issues and problems on drugs and terrorism,” she said.

The SK Federation is also considering to hold outreach activities, particularly feeding programs in impoverished areas in their municipality.

“In December, we plan to conduct our outreach program - a feeding program for our children in one of our barangays here in our municipality. We are still going to follow the health protocols by wearing face masks and observe physical distancing in the conduct of this event,” Dagoy disclosed.

The SK official also emphasized that SK federations can do more even without utilizing the SK fund by extending assistance and cooperating with the municipal government in implementing measures against COVID-19.

Dagoy also advised other young people to cooperate with the government in combating the threat of the virus by following the standard health protocols prescribed by the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19, such as wearing face masks, observing social distancing, and avoid going to crowded places. (ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
