UP Law symposium to present 60 case studies applying Int’l Law to PH cases

CALOOCAN CITY, Dec. 6 (PIA) -- Students from the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law will present some 60 case studies on how International Law can be applied to Philippine cases.

The event dubbed, “Junior Scholars Symposium on International Law Solutions to Philippine Law Problems,” will be held on Dec. 7 and 9, 2020.

The topics include protection orders for transgender women suffering from domestic violence, contraceptives for minors, medical marijuana, freedom of assembly during quarantine, and the OFW’s right to travel.

Likewise, other case studies include the liability of social media influencers, collective bargaining by government employees, legitimate children from void marriages, DOLE home inspection for kasambahays, ban on free public access to Facebook, and many others.

UP Assistant Professor Andre Palacios, symposium convener, will present the 7-step analysis undertaken by courts in order to correctly apply rules of international law to resolve Philippine legal issues.

 The symposium will open with Session 1 on Dec. 7, 2020 at 2:00-3:30 p.m., followed by Session 2 at 4:00-5:30 p.m. and Session 3 at 6:00-7:30 p.m.

The event will resume with Session 4 on Dec. 9, 2020 at 2:00-3:30 p.m., followed by Session 5 at 4:00-5:30 p.m., and will end with Session 6 at 6:00-7:30 p.m.
