Illegally cut lumber cargo seized in Lanao Sur

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Marine soldiers have seized some 4,000 board feet of illegally cut coco lumber in Picong, Lanao del Sur, the military here said Wednesday.

Maj. Gen Juvymax Uy, commander of the Army's 6th Infantry Division, said the illegal wood cargo was intercepted at a checkpoint manned by members of the Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT) 5 in Barangay Maladeg, Picong town late Tuesday.

The MBLT 5 is a component unit of the Joint Task Force Central that Uy heads in a concurrent position.

He said the Marines flagged down a red Isuzu forward truck carrying the illegally cut logs while on its way to transport the lumber to Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

Arrested were Amano Toma, driver, 31; and truck helpers Januden Toma, 24; Zaldy Anto, 25; Aksaram Marohog, 25; Yazir Sentian, 20; Makmod Lauyan, 27; Habin Layan, 40; and Jun Lauyan, 40, all of Barangay Piraka, Sultan Naga Dimapuro, Lanao del Norte.

The confiscated wood cargo and apprehended suspects were turned over to the Picong police for the proper filing of charges. (PNA)
