DavSur provincial LGU readies for vaccination program

DAVAO CITY, Feb. 23 (PIA) – The Provincial Government of Davao del Sur has been conducting training and facility readiness preparations as part of the pre-implementation phase of its COVID-19 vaccination program.

Atty. Herbert Gonzales, Davao del Sur provincial administrator, bared that the series of training provided by the Provincial Health Office are for the personnel who will be involved in the roll-out of vaccination program in the province.

Gonzales said that the PHO is also heading the preparations of facilities of the rural health units (RHUs) in Digos City and in nine municipalities, as priority areas for the conduct of the vaccination.

There will also be municipal gymnasiums which will be identified as alternative venues in case the RHU facilities will not be viable to be used, the provincial official said during Monday’s (Feb. 22) ‘One Davao on COVID-19, a Virtual Presser’ by the Philippine Information Agency Region XI.

“As of now, safe kini sila kay ang atoang base sa last inspection sa atoang mga engineers as well as sa mga evaluators after sa series of linog atong 2019… So more or less, naa kitay mga structures karon nga secure para sa pag conduct sa atoang vaccination (As of now, these are safe based on the last inspection by our engineers as well as evaluators after the series of earthquake in 2019… So more or less, we have structures which are secure for the conduct of the vaccination),” he assured as to the safety and reliability of the facilities.

Also part of the preparations in the province was the allocation of a P100 million budget for the vaccination program as earlier pronounced by Davao del Sur Governor Douglas Cagas.

Gonzales said that portions of the budget will be used for the necessary activities and preparations like the campaign plan and the purchase of additional vehicles.

He underlined the importance of supporting the demand generation activities and the active involvement of the LGUs, as it is a mandate of the Department of the Interior and Local Government in a bid to eradicate the hesitancy of the people towards COVID-19 vaccination.

He disclosed that the additional vehicles will also be part of the logistics, saying “para dali lang ta mag transport sa mga vaccines once it will arrive in the province... And once pud padulong sa respective LGUs or vaccination sites (so that there will be easy transport of the vaccines once it will arrive in the province... and in transporting to the respective LGUs or vaccination sites).”

Gonzales also updated that the PHO continues to monitor the master listing of eligible population for the COVID-19 vaccines per LGU, based on the priority sectors.

He said that about three to four municipalities have already completed their master lists, as reported by the PHO. (PIA-XI/Carina L. Cayon)
