DTI trains Diffun farmers on rice-based product processing

DIFFUN, Quirino, Feb. 26 (PIA)—At least 15  farmers from Brgy. Villa Pascua who are members of the Villa Pascua Multi-Purpose Cooperative (VIPAMCO) had undergone skills enhancement training recently on rice-based product processing from the Department of Trade and Industry Provincial Office through its Comprehensive and Agrarian Reform Program.

VIPAMCO is  a DTI-CARP assisted organization is  currently engaged in rice-brew production and is now expanding its rice-based products specifically on   traditional rice wine (tapoy) and rice cake (puto) making.

At least 15  farmers from Brgy. Villa Pascua who are members of the Villa Pascua Multi-Purpose Cooperative (VIPAMCO) had undergone skills enhancement training recently on rice-based product processing from the Department of Trade and Industry Provincial Office through its Comprehensive and Agrarian Reform Program.

According to Kristal Anne L. Pera, CARP-TIDS,the training ran for two days  and  on the second day, the participants underwent  training on empanada and puff rice making under  Isabel F. Salvador, Associate Professor I of the Research and Development, Extension and Training Department of Quirino State University.

Provincial Director  Ma. Sofia G. Narag commended the cooperative members for sustaining their enterprise despite the pandemic.

“We are glad that this cooperative has been able to survive and surviving does not only mean being operational, but more of being cooperative and dedicated to each other towards achieving your goals,” Narag said.

Narag also urged the members to be more creative and innovative in terms of their production by trying a lot of products that can be produced out of rice.

Meanwhile,  VIPAMCO  Chairman Winnie Baclig, thanked the Department for its  usual support to the endeavors of the cooperative.

“Our cooperative is indeed lucky. We are just a small cooperative that is  about to sink because of this pandemic, but because there is DTI, we still see a hint of hope to survive,” Baclig said. (MDCT/TCB/PIA 2-Quirino)
