Aftershocks possible from magnitude 5.6 DavOcc quake

MANILA – Aftershocks are possible from the magnitude 5.6 earthquake that hit Davao Occidental early on Thursday (May 13), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic quake struck 397 kilometers southeast of Sarangani town at 2:20 a.m. It had a depth of 55 km.

Phivolcs has not recorded any instrumental intensities on its earthquake bulletin issued at 6:19 a.m.

Meanwhile, damages are not expected, as damages start at intensity VI based on the Phivolcs' scale.

On May 6, a magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck the town of Jose Abad Santos in the same province. There were no recorded aftershocks from the tremor. (PNA)
