DA launches School-on-the-Air smart agriculture project

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, May 10 (PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) has launched the School-on-the-Air Program on smart agriculture in the Cagayan Valley Region. 

Agriculture Secretary William Dar says that the School-on-the-Air program will further capacitate farmers on the latest agricutural technologies. (DA) 

Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar said that the program is one of the strategies of the department to capacitate farmers on modern agriculture technologies. 

He said that the School-on-the-Air aims to present and discuss modern technologies on rice production that will enhance further the productivity of the local farmers to contribute to the rice sufficiency program of the government.

"Sa pamamagitan ng radyo ay maipapamahagi natin ang mga makabagong teknolohiya upang makamit ang masaganang ani at mataas na kita ng ating mga magsasaka. Sama-sama tayo sa implementasyon ng programang ito," he said. 

The program dubbed as "Palay Aralan Makabagong Pagsasaka sa Himpapawid" was initiated in collaboration with the Agriculture Training Institute (ATI), the Philippine Rice Research Institute-Isabela, state colleges and universities, local government units, local radio stations, and other partner agencies.

The program will target over 3,000 rice farmer enrollees from the different municipalities of Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino provinces is to be aired in five identified local carrier stations.

During the virtual launching, a memorandum of agreement was also inked between the ATI, DA, Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation, National Irrigation Administration, Nueva Vizcaya State University, Quirino State University, and the local government units of Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino. 

All of the partner agencies in the program expressed their support to the initiative, which will officially start in the region on May 13. (BME/OTB/PIA-Cagayan with reports from DA-RFO II, RAFIS)
