Margielyn Didal finishes 7th in women's skateboarding

MANILA – Margielyn Didal fought through an apparent injury and took the seventh spot at the end of the Tokyo Olympics women's street skateboarding event on Monday at the Ariake Skating Park.

Didal hurt herself after failing to land her first trick, which somehow slowed her down the rest of the way.

She would complete her second trick, but she bailed in her final three tricks and settled for a score of 7.52 points.

Despite missing out on a medal, Didal's ranking was a huge improvement from her pre-tournament seed as she entered the event 17th in the world.

Meanwhile, Japan got a 1-3 finish in the street skateboarding final with Momiji Nishiya leading the way.

The 13-year-old Nishiya won the gold after nailing her last three tricks to finish with 15.26 points.

Funa Nakayama had a chance to steal the gold from her compatriot, but she missed her final trick and settled for the bronze with 14.49 points.

Rayssa Leal of Brazil, also aged 13, took the silver with 14.64 points, also missing in her final trick that could have won it for her.

Japanese world champion Yuto Horigome won the gold in men’s street skateboarding on Sunday. (PNA)
