Power restored in 465 Ilocos villages

LAOAG CITY—Electricity has been restored in 465 villages in Ilocos Norte, or about 95 percent of the 557 total number, after Super Typhoon Ompong (Mangkhut) hit the province two weeks ago, Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) reported Friday.

Felino Herbert Agdigos, general manager of Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC), said in a press briefing that the cooperatives' linemen were working overtime to fully restore electricity in the province.

For more than two weeks now, some areas of the province, particularly in remote areas with toppled electric posts have no power.

These include some sitios and villages in the municipalities of Batac, Badoc, Pinili, Currimao and Nueva Era, according to Agdigos.

At the height of Typhoon Ompong, fierce winds smashed Ilocos Norte, especially on the early morning of Sept. 15. The INEC management decided to shut down power to secure consumers from further damage to life and property.

Efforts to fully restore power in the entire province continues, where more than 300 primary electric poles were toppled by "Ompong." (PNA)
