Tabuk City DepEd to improve waste segregation in schools

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, March 30 (PIA) - - The city’s delegation to the recent  Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) meet  in Apayao  maybe dismal but went home inspired on positive values learned from  the host province.

While committing to improve their standing in the next CARAA, the City Schools Division Management Board   vowed to replicate the best practices they saw at Pudtol, Apayao where they were billeted.  They were particularly impressed with the waste management of the schools.

Napoleon Mukay, in charge of delegates’ billeting, reported he was so impressed how the stakeholders of Pudtol managed their garbage.  The schools and roads are clean; there were installed  receptacles for waste. “This is what we want to impose in our schools,” he said sharing that he came out with a conclusion that people in Pudtol are disciplined since there are no litters around.

Cornelia Peralta, delegation in charge on sanitation, said waste segregation should start in schools with proper installation of garbage stands. They hope to institutionalize waste segregation in schools, establish tree parks and plant more trees on school grounds.

Chief Education Supervisor Sally Feken   said they will involve all schools in the waste management program of the City LGU. “And community support is also a must with parents and school children to have their own waste disposal systems at home,” she said.
For it to succeed, Feken said home visitation will be carried out to follow up on what school children and their parents are doing.

In another development, this city’s sports management team will strategize to elevate the standing of their athletes in regional meets. Among the moves is to ask the City LGU to create the Office of the Sports Coordinator and  craft   a sports development plan. (JDP/PAB-PIA Kalinga)
