Profiling of WV GIDA barangays starts in May

ILOILO CITY, April 30 (PIA) - -The Department of Health (DOH) is spearheading a profiling of Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) in Western Visayas starting this May.

GIDA are communities with vulnerable population physically and socio-economically separated from the mainstream.

Kristine Solas, GIDA/IP Focal Person of DOH 6, said the GIDA Information System was developed to profile GIDA barangays in Western Visayas. It provides information on the physical and economic characteristics of the community specifically the common and endemic diseases, and health facilities present in the area.

Also, the Information System serves as a monitoring and evaluation tool for research-based planning and program implementation.

Solas said the profiling, which will start on May until August 2019, will be conducted by health professionals who are part of their Human Resources for Health (HRH) program in coordination with the provincial, city/municipal health offices in the local government units.

“We are expected to complete the data before August 30 and the same will be evaluated and validated prior to uploading in the national system,” she said.

She added that the profiling will cover the 945 GIDA barangays in the region which were identified by the LGUs in April.

“Through this activity, we will have a recording or database of GIDA barangays to ensure availability of, equality and access to quality health care,” Solas said.

The profiling is also part in support of the Universal Health Care Act which was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on February this year that automatically enrolls all Filipinos in the government’s health insurance program. (JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
