DFA Davao Consular Office offers Authentication services

DAVAO CITY, June 24 (PIA) -- The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), with its Guest of Honor Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, formally opened on June 21, its first authentication center in Davao City, the first in Mindanao.

Instead of going to Metro Manila to avail DFA’s authentication service, Filipinos in Mindanao can now have this service at SM City Davao where the DFA Consular Office is located.

The said office issues Apostille certificates to public documents for use abroad. The Apostille, which replaced the Authentication Certificate as proof of authentication, comes without the red satin ribbon.

DFA officer-in-charge of the Office of the Undersecretary for Civilian Security and Consular Concerns Brigido DJ Dulay explained that with President Rodrigo Roa-Duterte who signed last April 3, 2019 Philippines’ accession to the Apostille Convention, it resulted to the reduction of the authentication process cycle by half.

“ The Apostille Convention removes the requirement for authenticated documents to undergo another authentication by the embassy or consulate of the country of destination that is also a state party of the convention”, Dulay said.

Philippines, being a state member of the Apostille Convention, no longer required Filipinos who wish to have their documents authenticated in the country where they intent to present or use such.

The authentication or the Apostillization of Philippine-issued documents alone will be accepted in 113 Apostille Convention member countries around the world.

“ The opening of this service in Davao City is a testament of the Duterte administration’s commitment to bringing efficient, effective, and responsive frontline service to the public.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte lauded the DFA as “ the new center will prove to be a promising breakthrough as the country continues to benefit from the increased remittances brought by our overseas Filipino workers.”

“ Easy access to DFA authentication services would pave the way for more cost-efficient processing for Mindanawons especially OFWs, OFW aspirants, and their families.”

Applications are accepted in the Consular Office from Mondays to Fridays from 10AM to 4PM and on Saturdays from 10AM to 3PM.Scheduling for an appointment is not necessary. (PIA/FGM)
