Red Cross Lanao del Norte Chapter holds poster making contest

LALA, Lanao del Norte, Aug. 27 (PIA)-- In celebration of International Humanitarian Law this month, the Philippine Red Cross Lanao del Norte Chapter held a poster making contest at Jurassic Eco Park, Maranding, Lala, here.

With the theme, "Protecting the Defenseless In Times of Armed Conflict," the activity aims to promote awareness in the schools as part of the schools resiliency.

A total of 15 schools coming from Lala, Kapatagan and Sapad towns participated the poster making contest under the funding support of German Federal Foreign Office and the German Red Cross.

The IHL protects people like wounded soldiers, priests, medical personnel and civilians caught in an armed conflict, who are not or are no longer participating in hostilities and restricts the means and method of warfare.

Accordingly, Republic Act 9851 or the Philippine Act on Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide and other Crimes against Humanity and RA 10530 or the Red Cross and other Emblems Act of 2013 were two of the country’s major accomplishments in pursuing the IHL.

Gregorio Galucan, Chapter administrator, said the poster making contest is in commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Geneva Convention, anchored on the theme, “Even Wars Have Limits” to the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Month 2019.

“This poster making contest is a way to express their emotion through this," Galucan added.(Hicelyn F. Pantorilla/PIA10)
