Pasay LGU assures structural integrity of SM MOA Complex
PASAY CITY, 22 Jan. (PIA) – The City Government of Pasay assured that there is no sign of structural damage in SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Complex.
This after Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano instructed City Engineer Edwin Javaluyas to inspect the SM MOA Complex after a chain message circulated on social media claiming that SM Mall of Asia’s building foundations has weakened after the Taal Volcano eruption.

A team from the city’s Engineering’s Technical Inspectors composed of composed of Engr. Renato Sanchez, Engr. Danilo Lucanas, Engr. Edgar Balauag, Engr. Nebcuhadnezzar Aromin and Engr. Crisanto Martinez conducted a ‘motu proprio’ inspection and investigation last January 14 to check if the foundation of the SM MOA Complex has been compromised and posed imminent danger of possible collapse, as indicated in a chain message.
Citing the findings of the Technical Inspectors, Engr. Javaluyas said, all the buildings “erected” and “under construction” in SM MOA Complex including the grounds, pavements and rocks remain “intact and have no sign of structural damage and cracks.”
“The piles of rock in the seawall are intact and has no sign of movements,” Engr. Javaluyas said in his report submitted to Mayor Calixto-Rubiano thru City Administrator Atty. Dennis Bernard Acorda on January 16, 2020.
According to the city government, SM Supermalls has described the chain message as “patently false.”
Meanwhile, SM Mall of Asia also issued a statement and said that the SM MOA Complex is built on concrete piles that reach the bedrock and will withstand extreme situations. “We also have rigorous annual checks to ensure the safety of the buildings so at no time will the safety of our customers, tenants and employees be compromised,” SM MOA’s statement read.
