COVID-19 lectures included in 4Ps family development sessions

Legazpi City – Prioritizing the safety and health of the vulnerable, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-5) here started its information drive on the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) through its Family Development Sessions (FDS) for the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries on Monday.

 

This is through a memorandum directing the department’s community facilitators to include discussions about the COVID-19 in the FDS.

 

DSWD-5 regional director Arnel B. Garcia said during a radio interview that the integration of COVID-19 information drive in the FDS is timely and strategic for the attendance to the sessions is a prime condition for a continuous inclusion of a beneficiary to the program.

 

“The commitment of DSWD is to disseminate the right COVID-19 information and reach the Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) and all the 375,000 families of the 4Ps,” Garcia said.

 

“As the social welfare arm of the government, DSWD is dedicated to actively contribute in the efforts to help the public amidst this new epidemic by closely working with other government and non-government agencies in formulating further solutions,” he added.

 

As of writing, the City and Municipal links of DSWD has already conducted orientation to 1,387 or 12.6% of parent leaders out of the 11,037 parent groups in the region. 

 

The information drive is in coordination with the local health offices and shall utilized Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials provided by the Department of Health which will focus on COVID-19 symptoms, transmission, prevention, proper sanitation, hand washing, and hygiene.

 

The COVID-19 is a new strain of coronavirus that has not been previously identified in humans that causes respiratory disease which can be transmitted from person to person.  In the Philippines, there are three confirmed cases while Bicol region remains free from COVID-19 as of February 20, 2020.
