5 Davao de Oro netizens reprimanded on COVID-19 fake news
NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro, March 27 (PIA) - Aside from combatting the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), the province of Davao de Oro is also battling the proliferation of fake news about the pandemic.
Since March 19, five persons were reprimanded and counseled by the local government units, and the Philippine National Police for posting fake news about the COVID-19.
In Compostela town, two netizens were arrested on March 19. One of whom was a 13-year-old girl, who posted a rumor she heard from her aunt.
She said on her post that a person who allegedly worked in Manila went home in their community, was found to be positive, and was transported by an ambulance with her husband, leaving their five children behind.
According to Compostela municipal information officer Julius Conejos, the child with her parents were already counseled by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
While the other netizen was brought to the Incident Management Team Command Post and got reprimanded.
Both of the violators from Compostela have already erased their posts.
On March 23, through the joint efforts of the local government units and the police stations of Montevista and Nabunturan, a lady submitted herself at the Nabunturan Mayor’s Office after she has been called out in social media for posting fake news.
She said in her post that a doctor in Montevista confirmed that there are three COVID-19 positive persons in the province and were referred to a hospital in Davao.
According to Nabunturan Information Officer Reciejane Lambo, both the local government units gave a stern warning to the lady not to post fake news again or face possible cases to be filed against her.
As of this writing, the lady de-activated her Facebook account.
In New Bataan also on the same day, a netizen was called out for sharing a fake news saying that the soldiers announced that the public market in the town will be closed.
According to New Bataan Information Officer Mirasol Mulato, the netizen issued an apology for sharing the post.
On Friday, March 27, a netizen was arrested by the Nabunturan Police after posting a fake news that someone is positive with COVID-19 in Barangay Mainit of the said town.
The netizen got reprimanded by the Nabunturan COVID-19 Information Command Center and the police. (PIA11, Michael Uy)
