‘Ambo’ brings rains over Mindanao, may intensify into storm

MANILA – The trough of Tropical Depression Ambo will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Mindanao, a weather specialist said Monday.

Ambo was last eyed 385 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph. It heads northwest at 10 kph.

Ariel Rojas, a weather specialist at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, said Ambo might develop into a tropical storm by Thursday.

"It may also make landfall over the Bicol Region, but this (forecast) may still change," he added.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds will prevail over the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao. Coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas. (PNA)
