Magalong calls for continuing public support to city's GCQ guidelines

BAGUIO CITY, May 23(PIA) - - Mayor Benjamin Magalong calls for continuing public cooperation, obedience and on instilling the needed discipline to ensure the safety of everyone from the COVID -19.

In a live public address on Wednesday, Magalong appealed for support of the people of Baguio to the city government prescribed guidelines for the General Community Quarantine that would be in effect up to the end of the month. 

Among the highlights of the GCQ guidelines that the mayor specified are the following:  the 24 hour curfew that still in effect in Baguio, with specific curfew of 9:00pm to 4:00am for workers except for workers on authorized industries/business which require operations beyond the curfew time;  

Wearing of face mask and social distancing is must when outside the home or in public places;

Those 20 years old and below, 60 years old and above, pregnant women and persons with heath risk must stay at home  while only identified and authorized personnel shall move freely within the city;

Mass gatherings, non-essential social gatherings, leisure and tourism activities remain suspended;

Physical and wellness activities are regulated and a wellness pass must be secured from the CEPMO - opening of businesses and work are regulated and gradual so as to ensure that the health and safety of the people will not be compromised;

There are strict and clear rules and guidelines for non - Baguio residents who will return to work in the city, as well as for Baguio residents that are stranded in other parts of the country who wish to return home; and   that there are also rules needed to be followed by Baguio residents who plan/need to travel outside the city, as well as to non-residents who plan/need to visit or travel to Baguio.

Magalong said Baguio will be gradually reopening its economy but will ensure that opening of businesses and work will not compromise the health and safety of the people.

He reiterated the importance of every citizen’s active participation and cooperation so that Baguio City will move as one towards the new normal.

“We are on our way to the new normal so to speak, and with that, we are accountable for the safety of everyone. Keep that in mind. Nakasalalay ang buhay ng iba sa ating mga kamay. Ang unang hakbang para maging tagumpay sa laban na ito ay anf pagiging disiplinado,” Magalong stressed.  

“Kaunting tiis at kaunting sakripisyo ang kinakailangan para sa kaligtasan ng lahat. It should do well for us to keep us steadily equipped in our day-to-day collective struggle to keep the dreaded COVID-19 at bay and in check, protecting ourselves and everyone else. Sa patuloy na suporta willingly shared by everyone, malalampasan natin ito,” Magalong added.

On Thursday, National Task Force for COVID-19 Chief Implementor Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr acknowledged the discipline and diligence of the people of the Cordillera in their fight against COVID 19. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
