Shooting incident in Calbayog City kills seven

Catbalogan City, May 20 (PIA) - - A mass shooting incident at P1, Brgy. Gadgaran, Calbayog City killed seven persons yesterday, May 19.

A barangay kagawad of said barangay informed Calbayog Police station that a shooting incident is happening in their area.

The PNP personnel led by PLt. Col Neil Montaño immediately proceeded to the area.

Glenn Balonan, a resident of Brgy. Gadgaran was allegedly drunk when he ran amok and had a shooting spree.

He killed six people and injured three others using his Caliber .45 gun. He was later on killed by a responding police officer bringing the total death count to seven.

The victims who died in the incident were Carlo Saldania, Gary Saldania, Jimmy Jadulco, Jalita Ramada, Vicente Lozano and Leopoldo Galo were all from Calbayog City.

Balonan who is an ex-soldier had long been dishonorobly discharged by the Philippine Army on February 19, 2004 as he went Absent without Leave.

A thorough investigation and determination of the motive of the suspect is still ongoing. (GMT/PIA-Samar)
