WV indigent senior citizens receive social pension

ILOILO CITY, May 22 (PIA) – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has already paid the social pension of indigent senior citizens in Western Visayas.

DSWD 6 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre said that a total of 291,080 social pensioners have already received their P3,000 stipend for the first semester of 2020, that is, for January to June.

The number of senior citizens who have been paid with their social pension is already 80 percent of the total 365,908 indigent elderly in the Region.

Every senior citizen social pensioner receives a monthly stipend of P500 for their medicine and other needs.

Macapobre said that the total amount paid to for the elderly’s social pension, as of May 21, reached 873,240,000.

In addition, DSWD has also transferred funds to the remaining beneficiaries who were not able to claim their social pension last year, she said.

Macapobre also said that as of May 20, DSWD has distributed to the various local government units (LGUs) in the Region some 65,568 family food packs, amount of which totaled P25,290,015.

On the other hand, DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista said that 1.17 million indigent senior citizens in the country have already received their social pension.

He said that the government has already paid P3.51 billion for the senior citizens who are beneficiaries of the social pension.
