GenTri ordinance waives tricycle franchise renewal fee to aid TODA members

GENERAL TRIAS, Cavite Feb. 4 (PIA) -- The Sangguniang Panglungsod here recently passed an ordinance waiving the tricycle franchise renewal fee of P700 for year 2021.

City Councilors Isagani L. Culanding and Florencio D. Ayos of the Committee on Transportation and Ways and Means authored the ordinance to benefit thousands of tricycle driver members of the TODA.

"All they have to do is to go to the City Hall grounds and queue for re-registration for tricycle franchise renewal para po sa maayos na pagkakabit ng new sticker," Councilor Gani Culanding said.

During the height of the pandemic last year, the transport sector is one of the most paralyzed sectors due to the restriction in the movement of the people and prevent the further spread of the virus in accordance to IATF measures.

Despite the ongoing crisis, transportation had slowly resumed with the establishment of protocols for the operation of transportation with the tricycles being the first ones allowed to transport APOR (Authorized Persons Outside of Residence) within the locality for essential purposes of marketing, purchase of medicines, medical and financial transactions.

In some cities, tricycle drivers were partnered with delivery companies like Foodpanda, Grabfood, Lalamove, and other movers to give them additional livelihood since income from tricycle operations at 50% capacity would not suffice for their family's daily expenses.

However, the City Government here headed by Mayor Antonio 'Ony' Ferrer with the able support of Congressman Luis 'Jonjon' Ferrer had been supportive to the members of the transport sector with the regular distribution of relief packs and granting of financial assistance.

The local chief executive also declared in an interview before the year 2020 ended that the city government will include jeepney and tricycle drivers in its free COVID-19 vaccination program since they are frontliners as well. (Ruel Francisco with reports from Dennis Abrina)
