Another batch of 14,400 Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines now in Davao

DAVAO CITY, April 7 (PIA)- Another batch of CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccines made by Sinovac arrived early morning today (April 7) at the Davao International Airport.

The shipment consisted of 14,400 vials which will be used to vaccinate the eligible healthcare workers  in the region. Half of the new arrivals will be used for the second dose of the vaccines.

“Out of the 14,400 kelangan na ta mag-allot ana para second dose para sa previously allocated last week. With the remaining 7,200 out of the 14,400, i-divide nato siya ug 2 so 3,600 atong first dose then the 3,600 for the second dose (…we need to allot as the second dose for the previously allocated last week. With the remaining 7,200 out of the 14,400 we divide it by two ,so 3,600 for the first dose the the other 3,600 for the second dose),“ Dr. Janis Olavides, Vaccination Team Leader, COVID-19 Vaccination Program of the Department of Health-XI said.

Dr. Olavides said with the newly-arrived shipment they need to ensure that a second dose will already be allocated as the interval is only 28 days between the first and second doses.

“We need to safekeep already for the second dose so we can complete the vaccination of the healthcare workers," she said.

Dr. Olavides said the region currently has 77,570 eligible healthcare workers for vaccination and they have already vaccinated  40,898 or a 52.7% coverage of target eligibles.

“And with the vaccines that have arrived already and that have been allocated to the provinces, nasa 93% consumption na po tayo ng mga bakuna,” Dr. Olavides said.

According to the regional vaccination team leader, there are still ongoing vaccination activities, they are expecting the targeted eligibles to be vaccinated this week and some will be scheduled next week. (PIA/RG Alama)
