Zamboanga City jail sets Banana Festival

ZAMBOANGA CITY--The Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC) is conducting the Banana Festival as part of its activity, in line with the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival Celebration.

The Zamboanga Hermosa Festival kicks off on October 1, the highlight of which is the feast of Our Lady of the Pillar on October 12.

Jail Officer 3 Rey Laurence Comprendio, ZCRC information officer, on Saturday said the Banana Festival will be held on October 10 to showcase the different banana species grown in this city.

Comprendio said the festival is an initiative of Chief Insp. Nathaniel Aljas, ZCRC warden, who conceptualized the activity upon learning that banana is abundant in this city.

He said the festival will feature exhibits of handicraft made by the inmates themselves, such as slippers, bags, and lanterns.

He said the PDLs will have their own version of street dance competition inside the ZCRC compound, and cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to the winners.

“The activities are (designed) to let the PDLs feel that they are part of the outside community and that they are not left behind,” Comprendio said. (PNA)
