PDEA collars 2 drug suspects in North Cotabato

COTABATO CITY –  Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives nabbed two drug suspects during simultaneous raids conducted in Pikit, North Cotabato, on Wednesday.

Neil Liansing, PDEA-North Cotabato provincial director, identified the arrested suspects as Bajunaid Ali, 40, of Barangay Fort Pikit, and Danny Calungsod, 31, of Barangay Ginatilan.

Liansing said a third drug suspect managed to escape.

“He managed to escape before our raiding team reached his home,” he said.

Armed with search warrants issued by a local court, the PDEA agents--backed by personnel from the Pikit police and Army’s 7th Infantry Battalion--swooped down on their targets around 3:00 a.m. and got Ali and Calungsod.

Seized from Ali were four sachets of suspected “shabu” valued at PHP20,000. Confiscated from Calungsod were five sachets of the illegal stuff with a street amount of PHP30,000.

Liansing said the arrested suspects are members of a local drug syndicate operating in Pikit and other nearby towns in the province. They were charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
