Illegal firecracker vendor wounded in Bulacan raid

BOCAUE, Bulacan-- A 50-year-old vendor was shot and injured during a police raid against illegal firecracker sellers in Barangay Binang 1st in this town Sunday afternoon.

Bulacan police director Senior Supt. Chito Bersaluna identified the suspect as Blandino Cao, a resident of Sitio Bihunan in the said barangay, who is also said to be an illegal firecracker manufacturer.

"Investigation showed that the suspect, together with three others, was seen selling illegally manufactured firecrackers to customers along MacArthur Highway in Barangay Binang 1st, which was reported to Bocaue Police Station," Bersaluna said.

He said that Supt. Amado Mendoza, Bocaue police chief, immediately responded and upon arrival of police personnel, the suspect ran toward Sito Bihunan together with the three other vendors.

“While being chased by the responding authorities, suspect Blandino drew his firearm and aimed towards the police personnel. As self-defense, the suspect was shot on his leg, captured and rushed to the nearest hospital while the other suspects managed to escape,” he added.

Confiscated from the suspect were one sack of illegal firecrackers and the .38-caliber Smith and Wesson revolver without serial number, which he used in firing at authorities.

A case for violation of Republic Act 7183 (Illegal Selling and Manufacturing of Firecrackers) and RA 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearms and Ammunitions) will be filed against the suspect. (PNA)
