4 dead, 45 hurt in SCTEx mishap

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac -- Four persons died and 45 others were injured when the tourist bus they were riding collided with a cargo truck along the Subic-Clark-Tarlac-Expressway (SCTEx) in Concepcion town, this province on Thursday.

Senior Supt. Jesus Rebua, Tarlac police acting provincial director, identified the fatalities as Ricardo Aledia and Isidro Brabante, both of Barangay Palangue; and Lalla Abito and Ruel Castillo, both of Barangay Sapa, all in Naic, Cavite.

He said those injured were not immediately identified and were taken to different hospitals including Medical City in Clark, Pampanga; Angeles University Foundation Hospital in Angeles City and Mabalacat District Hospital in Mabalacat City.

Initial investigation showed that the victims were on board a tourist bus en route to Baguio City when their vehicle crashed into a cargo truck at around 3:30 a.m.

According to the Philippine Red Cross-Tarlac Chapter, the passengers are members of the Liga ng mga Barangay-Sangguniang Kabataan of Naic, Cavite.

“Most of the passengers of the bus were sleeping during the accident,” Rebua said, adding that the police are still verifying the names of the drivers of the bus and truck. (PNA)
