Drug suspect yields P3.4-M shabu in Legazpi

LEGAZPI CITY -- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Bicol, in a joint operation with the police, National Bureau of Investigation and the Armed Forces of the Philippine (AFP), on Wednesday arrested a suspected drug pusher with PHP3.4 million worth of shabu in his possession.

PDEA-Bicol acting regional director Christian Frivaldo, in a phone interview on Thursday, said Benedict Oliveros, 18, single, of Barangay San Isidro, Pili, Camarines Sur, was collared at around 10:05 p.m. in a buy-bust operation along the Obelisk-Eco Homes Road in Barangay Puro here.

Operatives seized from the suspect two knot-tied transparent plastic sachets containing 500 grams of suspected shabu.

Wednesday’s confiscation brought to PHP6.8 million the total worth of shabu seized in buy-bust operations in this city since last week.

On Jan. 24, PDEA was able to confiscate another PHP3.4 million worth of suspected shabu in Barangay Bogtong here.

Joint PDEA and police operatives arrested Victor Balictar Jr., Steven Roger Altea, and Kenjie Babasa as they were selling two knot-tied plastic bags containing 500 grams of shabu to an undercover PDEA agent.

Frivaldo said the arrested suspects were said to be members of a drug syndicate that supplies drugs to Barangays Oro Site, Bitano, and Bonot, which are considered as “illegal drug hubs”.

The leader of the drug syndicate, however, was able to escape during the drug bust, and is now the subject of a casing operation.

The suspect reportedly has a well-organized network that sources illegal drugs from a Muslim community in Taguig City, Frivaldo said. (PNA)
