DOLE to give tribute to thousands of workers on Labor Day

ZAMBOANGA CITY, April 30 (PIA) --The Department of Labor and Employment IX (DOLE IX) gears for the celebration of Labor Day 2019 in Zamboanga City. The highlight of the activities will be held at the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority on Wednesday (May 1).

The event will kick-off with a motorcade with 5,000 employees from different companies. There will be a livelihood and diskwento fairs and one-stop-shop services to offer to the labourers. The services include entertaining the workers with work-related contingencies and inform them on workers’ benefits.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will be giving free manicure, haircut and massage services. There will also be free medical and dental services. Labor sector Vice-chair Jose Suan said services are ways to give tribute to the laborers as “this day is their special day..”

Aside from the services, programs will also be conducted to give entertainment to the workers. These are Sports Fest, Talentadong Empleyado, Search for Mr. & Ms. Labor Day, Search for Ms. Kasambeshie & LODI Employer and Raffle Prizes.

Meanwhile, one of the highlights during the Labor Day celebration is the yearly Jobs Fair to give opportunities to job seekers in the region. This year, 18,053 job vacancies will be opened  for the 2-day Job Fair to be held at KCC Mall de Zamboanga from May 1-2, 2019. About 1,391 vacancies are intended for local agencies, 16,662 for Overseas and 22 for government agencies. Applicants are advised to bring  five or more resumes or bio data for them to have more chances in acquiring a job. Job seekers may also send online applications.

DOLE IX Regional Director Ofelia Domingo emphasized that they transferred the Job Fair location at KCC Mall de Zamboanga for it to be more accessible to the job seekers. “We want job opportunities to be closer to the job seekers,” she added. (ALT/MLE/ PIA9-Zamboanga City)
