Youth organization extends 5th year anniversary bazaar until May 2

LAOAG CITY, April 30 (PIA) -- Continuing the promotion of entrepreneurial spirit among Ilocano youth, a non-government youth organization in the province extends its anniversary bazaar until May 2.

The Sirib Ilokano Association (SIKA) recently launched the said bazaar on April 26 in time for the celebration of its 5th year founding anniversary.

Around 300 exhibitors, composed of young entrepreneurs and small business operators, are enjoined to take part of the shopping fair. This is an avenue for them to sell their products to a wider market.

Shoppers are offered with a wide array of local food, clothing apparels, fashion accessories, and other personal essentials can be found at the Dap-ayan Center in Laoag City.

“We enjoin everyone to check on the interesting products and be of help to our young entrepreneurs,” Weenter Ventura, one of the SIKA pioneers and the present Executive Director of the Ilocos Norte Youth Development Office, said.

Since its humble beginnings in 2014, youth volunteerism has sparked change in the community as SIKA continues to deliver services and promote youth advocacies such as mental health awareness, sex education and family planning, career counseling, peer tutoring, and leadership trainings.

SIKA’s battlecry this year, “Wen! Kabaelam Agtutubo! (Yes! Ilokano Youth can!) is a testament of the unending goal in amplifying the voices of young Ilokanos in the national issues and nation-building efforts.

This organization is presently holding active and strong 15,000 members across the province.

“Being a SIKA volunteer doesn’t pay off any single memory but the thought it has come along this way, having well-rounded and dedicated members who are willing to serve is the greatest reward that I would ever have as a leader,” JC Finale Siazon, SIKA assistant secretary, shares how SIKA has helped him in leadership.

Aside from the SIKA anniversary bazaar, other activities that are part of the celebration are SIKA retreat in Solsona, SIKA exhibit at Robinsons Place Ilocos, and the SIKA Gala Night at the Provincial Capitol.  (JNPD/MJTAB PIA Ilocos Norte)
