Pagatpat to host GK SipaG Football3 program on June 3-4

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- Gawad Kalinga (GK), in partnership with Fundlife International (F4L) through its SipaG program, will hold Football3 Training program for teachers, coaches, and youth leaders on June 3-4 at the Pagatpat Elementary School here.

Football coaches, teachers and youth leaders from Misamis Oriental, including this city and nearby provinces are invited to join the two-day program which will include a youth leadership and empowerment that uses football and other sports as a medium and teaching tool, according to organizer Marlyn Importante of Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation.

“We mold leaders among underprivileged youth, through the pillars of values formation, life skills, positive communication and child rights protection. Through this program, many children have gone on to become academic scholars, seek sustainable full-time employment and adult leaders in their community,’’ Importante said.

Malaybalay City in Bukidnon will also host the program on May 30-31. The program is also part of the F4L partnership with the International Olympic Committee which advocates ‘Play for Peace’. The program will be from 8 am-4 p.m. Lunch is free to all participants.

“Football3 is a unique way of playing football and changing lives across the world. It is based on the premise of fair play, gender equality, teamwork and respect are just as important as football skill,’’ Importante added.

She also said that Football3 incorporates key life lessons into every match. In mixed-gender teams, players collectively decide on the rules before the game.

“Following the match, players reflect on their behavior and that of their opponents, with points awarded for goals as well as for fair play. As football3 is played without referees, players must learn how to resolve conflicts among themselves through dialogue and compromise,” she said.

For registration, those interested may contact Marlyn "Bing" Importante at 09175771208 or local organizers at 09163784017 and at 09163784017. (PNA)
