Domagoso said  modern technology will be used in the distribution of the birthday gifts to  make it more convenient for senior citizens to receive their  monetary “gifts”.

"If Makati can do it, why not Manila? I hope you don't get a bad impression of me copying this. Ako naman, hindi mahihiya kapag nangongopya," Domagoso said during the signing ceremony.

"Para sa kapakinabangan ng mga taga-Lungsod ng Maynila, hindi kami mahihiya mangopya (mula sa ibang lungsod). Basta sa mga estudyante, huwag mangopya," he said in jest.

Under Ordinance No. 8570, Manila residents who are at least 60 years old would be entitled to a birthday gift worth P800 to be given by the local government in cash.

"The city government shall appropriate funds therefore which shall be used for the purposes mandated by this ordinance in the city's annual budget, and every year thereafter," the ordinance stated.

Domagoso said the ordinance would take effect in 2020. (PIA-NCR/ PIO Manila)
