State agencies working on policy to prevent explosive dengue outbreaks

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, (PIA) Sept. 30 - With common cause to find sustainable means to unload national burden of dengue, agencies of government come together to visit cities and provinces of Region 9 for the monitoring and evaluation for dengue outbreak.Lead by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 9, the monitoring team composed of agencies of government, recenlty visited Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga City to assess and evaluate the extent of intervention provided by the LGU and local  strategies implemented to lessen the menace of dengue specially when the incidence has grown dramatically in the recent months .
 
OCD 9 Regional Director Manuel Luis Ochoterena explained, the undertaking is to harness recommendations, highlight good practices on dengue prevention of each province and be able to come up with policies, directive at the regional level to prevent possible explosive outbreaks in the coming years.

“ The reason why we are doing this assessment, is to get inputs of how each province addresses this problem, for us to be able to come up with plans, para sa next cycle of dengue, we will not surpass anymore the epidemic or alert level,” explained Ochotorena.
 
He said, the dengue issue should not only be a concern of one government agency, but all government entities and everyone in the community.
 
He emphasized, everyone should help to shun dengue uptrend and all should work toward this mosquito-borne viral infection’s downtrend.
 
It can be recalled, the Department of Health (DOH), declared a national dengue epidemic in the wake of the overwhelming dengue cases  since January to July 2019 that peaked to 146,000 which is 98% higher than the same period in 2018.
